The day
A day at Sycamore
A morning has a shape, and inside it children decide what to do.
- 01
Step 1: Arrival
A teacher meets each child at the door. Children hang up coats and go straight to what interests them. Doors open at 8:00 a.m.
- 02
Step 2: Free play
The long stretch of the morning. Water, blocks, mud, dress-up, clay and paint are out, and children move between them as they like.
- 03
Step 3: Snack
Children set out plates and serve themselves at a low table. Hands are washed first, and families tell us about allergies at the tour.
- 04
Step 4: The yard
Everyone goes outside each morning. On a very cold or stormy day we shorten it, and boots and rain jackets live in the coat room.
- 05
Step 5: Story and song
A short circle on the rug with a book, a song or a puppet. Children who need to move can sit at the edge.
- 06
Step 6: Lunch, rest and pickup
School-day children eat lunch from home and rest with books. Morning pickup is at 12:30 pm and school-day pickup at 3:00 pm.

Tours run while the rooms are in the middle of play. Book one, or call and ask what to expect.
